Uncle Sam Script Excerpts Opening Segment--Star-Spangled Banner to Armed Forces Salute That is one of my favorite songs…"The Star Spangled Banner. For those of you who have not made my acquaintance before, I am Uncle Sam. In two days, on July 4th, I will be celebrating a birthday. My 224th birthday to be exact. To some of you this may seem old, however, among most national representatives, this is considered very young. Many of them have celebrated their birthdays for many centuries even some for multiple millenniums. I was born in the midst of difficult times and was greatly protected during my infancy. My mother nation tried very hard to cut my life short. However, many of my supporters went to war to save me. In fact, it was during that war that a prisoner, looking out from his jail cell at the battle, wrote the song you have just heard. Throughout the past two-hundred years, the freedoms of this nation have been defended many times by my sons and daughters. In fact, I dare say that some of you here today have either helped to defend this country or have relatives that have. To that end, we would like to take a few minutes to honor those people who have fought, some even died to maintain this nations freedom. This next medley includes songs that many of you will recognize. If you or someone you love was in the armed forces, when you hear the song for the branch that they represented would you please come to the front to be duly recognized. Concluding Prayer God, forgive us for our sins. This nation has been so blessed by your hand yet we have so quickly forgotten you. We have chosen to enjoy the pleasures of sin which only last for a season rather than to enjoy your glory forever. God, I lift up the authorities of this country. Let your will guide everyone from the President, congressmen, and supreme court justices to our local governments. Touch our leaders hearts and bring this great country back into your favor. We hereby invite you back into our homes, schools, and communities. Lord, we need you in America again. |
