Abraham and Sarah Script Excerpts Main Abraham and Sarah Page Opening Monologue Abraham: "I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed…To your descendants I will give this land." "To your descendants I will give this land." "To your descendants…" Those were the words spoken to me by God himself.  I must admit that, at the time, I thought to myself that that statement seemed very strange.  After all, I was seventy-five years old, my wife Sarah was Sixty-five years old and we didn't have any children.  How were we going to give anything to descendants if we didn't have any?  That was about 100 years ago…now I understand God's word…how could I have doubted him? (Underscore: Great is Thy Faithfulness) During these past hundred years, I've seen God's hand many, many times. Nearly twenty years passed before God mentioned the descendants again.  This time Sarah heard it too. "I will certainly return to you and Sarah, your wife, shall have a son." Now when Sarah heard it, mind you she is nearly ninety years old now, she laughed.  Wouldn't you?  Imagine being eighty-plus years old, you haven't been able to provide a child, God tells your husband that you will conceive…honestly, wouldn't you have laughed too? Sarah's First Monologue Sarah: Something just wasn't quite right.  Abraham seems so solemn-even more than he usually does when he goes to make the sacrifice.  He always spends some time searching the herds for the perfect lamb.  But this time he didn't even look at the sheep--or take one with him.  This time he only took Isaac, his donkey and two of our servants.  I know that Abraham walks closely with God, and I'm sure that God has the perfect plan.  But my mother's heart keeps asking why?  Why no lamb?  Who do things seem so strange?  Why was my husband acting so solemn--even a bit sad?  I trust in God and I know that He keeps His promises.  Before I was able to conceive a child, He told Abraham that his descendants would fill this land.  And many years later, a messenger came and spoke to me.  He said that I would conceive and have a son.  At my age?  What could I do but laugh?  About a year later, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy.  I was ninety years old!!  Again, I realized how unreal it was for me to give birth at such an age.  I laughed again.  We named him Isaac, which means laughter.  He was such a wonderful child.  But now he is so grown up, ready to go with Abraham to make the sacrifice.  But why didn't they take a lamb?  If Abraham is going to have many descendants, then Isaac will be coming back safe. Second Scene Sarah: Abraham!  You have returned safely!  But where is Isaac?  Abraham: He's in the fields.  Taking care of the flocks.  Sarah:  It's so good to have you both home safely.   Abraham: It's good to be back home.  Sarah: I must go see Isaac.  (Starts to exit)  Abraham?  How did you make the sacrifice?  You didn't even take a lamb with you.  Abraham: God Himself provided the lamb.  (Sarah exits)
