Jesus by Judas ExcerptsJudas' Opening MonologueJudas To the Audience When I came to Galilee from Judea three years ago I never planned to become a betrayer. Even when I was chosen as one of Jesus’ twelve disciples I didn’t plan to become a trader. I’d say I accepted the calling to be a disciple of Jesus for much the same reason as the other eleven…Jesus was our Messiah and our king. Everything went well until that first time that Jesus hinted that he must die…It was just after he had miraculously fed more than five thousand people with only five loaves of bread and two fish. It was then that I first began to think that something must be done. Judas' Turning PointJudas This was the last straw! I now know for sure that I have to do something drastic. I’ve decided to talk to the high priests. I know that they are willing to pay for Jesus’ captivity. Surely, Jesus being captured will push him to establish his kingdom here on earth immediately…after all, if he doesn’t assert his power then he will most likely be killed. Something must be done…And soon. Judas' Final MonologueJudas It was then that I realized that I was responsible for killing an innocent man. I desperately tried to get the Pharisees to take back the thirty pieces of silver telling them that I betrayed innocent blood. They asked me what that was to them and then they said the phrase which has driven me to this. “That is your responsibility.” I threw the money on the floor and ran out of the temple. Now…I’ve lost all that I had lived for. I was sure that Jesus would have saved himself by now. I guess I’ve been wrong about something all along…Jesus was not speaking figuratively when he spoke of His death. He’s really going to die…and I’m responsible. It would do me absolutely no good to try to seek forgiveness. I have no choice but to end it all right now.
